How does the device work?

Powered with a small battery, Agilik’s device works by providing dynamic, necessary knee-extension assistance and resistance at any time during a patient’s gait.
By assisting and resisting the movement of the knee, we hope to change a patient’s bent-kneed walking pattern and reduce their crouch. As opposed to exoskeletons that lift up the wearer and walk for them, our device is designed to help increase muscle strength and range of movement. Our device can measure knee angles, in real time, and adjust the amount of assistance that is required to aid the user in standing and walking more upright. This is especially critical in patients with cerebral palsy whose strength and endurance often deteriorate as they get older.

Where is it used?
Agilik’s solution is designed for use in clinic- and home-based rehabilitation, enabling more extensive, longer-term reinforcement and training of new motor patterns in the brain. Instead of helping patients walk, our goal is to enable them to learn how to stand more upright and walk stronger.

One of the ways we are keeping our product costs down is by licensing tried-and-tested exoskeleton technology developed by Bionic Power. We hold the exclusive, world-wide license to use this technology in medical applications. Our goal is a product that’s significantly less expensive than the large, cumbersome exoskeletons available today.
While our product is not yet available for sale to consumers, we are selling units in limited numbers for research purposes.
