MANUFACTURING SUPPORT ENGINEER

Bionic Power Inc. is a Vancouver-based company developing lightweight, high-mobility exoskeleton technology for the medical and military markets. Our first product is a pediatric gait rehabilitation device designed to improve crouch gait, often seen with cerebral palsy (CP), spina bifida and other knee extension deficiency disorders.

Assistive exoskeleton technology has shown great promise for gait rehabilitation. Currently, almost 50% of children with CP will lose the ability to walk in adulthood – we aim to change this. Bionic Power is commercializing its military exoskeleton technology to become light-weight and affordable for the medical market. Our first device is in clinical trials with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and BC Children’s Hospital, and we aim to commercialize within the next 12 months.


Reporting to the Mechanical Team Lead, the Mechanical Support Engineer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Creating assembly documents and standard operating procedures
  • Review Engineering drawings and act as document controller
  • Incoming part inspection and documentation
  • Help maintain an organizing shop, warehouse and assembly area
  • Managing QA and Assembly documentation
  • Creating purchase orders based on BOM
  • Managing Vendor relations. Obtaining quality documentation and performing vendor evaluations (possible vendor visits)
  • Work closely with quality department to ensure that processes are being developed that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Initiate change orders and change requests
  • Participate in failure analysis and design reviews


We have a small team of dedicated engineers in our Vancouver facility and are looking for a motivated engineer who is passionate about helping others while solving complex engineering problems. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience, a mechanical engineering degree and excellent communication skills.


Required qualifications and experience:

  • Strong MS office skills. Experience with Access or other relational database tools and Visual Basic scripting would be an asset
  • Knowledge of PDM tools and implementation practices is required. Solidworks PDM experience would be a big bonus but not required.
  • Exposure to 3D CAD – Solidworks preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage Vendors, Bills of Materials and small projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Registration with APEG BC as a P.ENG or EIT or the ability to register

HARDWARE ENGINEERING TEAM LEAD

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, the hardware team lead will be responsible for team management, as well as hardware development, testing and verification. This is a senior role and will include mentoring and task management for our electrical team.

We have a small team of dedicated engineers in our Vancouver facility and are looking for a motivated engineer who is passionate about helping others while solving complex engineering problems. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years design experience, an electrical engineering degree (advanced degree would be an asset) and excellent communication skills.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to our electrical team
  • Project management
  • Electrical design and verification
  • Managing EMC, ESD, and regulatory and safety testing and certification
  • Providing support to quality management and manufacturing
  • Mentoring and task setting for the team


Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Analog and digital circuit design
  • Design for manufacturability experience
  • Familiarity with lab testing equipment
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirement testing
  • Electrical reliability and safety analysis
  • Experience with BLDC/PMSM motor control
  • Strong control theory background
